In the last few years, APAV has been developing an important role in the training of qualified professionals in supporting victims of crime.

APAV Training emerged from the need to provide our staff with a set of skills that allows them to give support and guide victims of all types of crime.

APAV Training seeks to ensure that our staff and APAV as an institution can deliver high quality support. APAV believes and works towards ensuring that in Portugal all people affected by crime should have access that is free-of-charge, confidential and of quality and that the status of a victim of crime and their rights should be valued by society and in specific policies.

This is a growing area of service. APAV’s work as a training institution has been recognized, and APAV Training is increasingly a benchmark to other institutions seeking the professional qualification of their staff also working with victims of crime.

At the same time, the growth of APAV raised not only the number of victim support officers, but also the number of other professionals indirectly linked to this service, leading to the need to develop training programmes in other specific areas such as Management, Information Technology, Foreign Languages, etc.

To ensure the effective management of internal and external training, APAV created, in 2003, the Training Centre (Centro de Formação) located at their Headquarters.

In 2009, APAV decided to reorganize its training programme and make it more dynamic and professional in order to ensure an efficient response to the increase in demand for training solutions.

At present the Training Center (Centro de Formação) is coordinated centrally at the Headquarters in Lisbon and has Training Offices (Pólos de Formação) spread across the country in Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve and the Azores.

APAV has its own training facilities, namely the centres in Lisboa, Porto and Ponta Delgada.

 

Institutions seeking training from APAV can choose from having training at their own facilities or at APAV’s Training Centre (Centro de Formação).
